Scalp Avenue

Johnstown, Pennsylvania  -- 814-266-2422

In 1769,

six years after the English gained control of Florida, Joseph Shantz (Joseph Johns) acquired land in the Conemaugh Valley and began farming.  He wasn't the first owner of land in Johnstown, but he was the most prominent in those early times and the town took his name for its own.  The Indians told the white man not to build there because the valley floods.  Today, our respect for ancient knowledge is growing.

The Hometown Bar & Grill

is a very special place.  Johnstown

Pennsylvania is my home town, where

Westmont Hilltop Senior High School

defeated Bishop McCort High School

in Football in 1965.  After more than

forty years of defeats by Bishop,

Westmont came out on top with a

score that can easily be rated - a real

trouncing!  Bishop McCort High

School illustrated its sportsmanship and sense of fair play the very next

year, by dropping Westmont from its

play list. Chicken Wings became

popular in Buffalo N.Y. but Bishop

McCort H.S. knew about them first

and flew away in embarrassment.

The Birthday of

The Single Digit Salute!!

The First Single Digit Salute

was with bows

and arrows.  It was called "flipping

the bird" because arrows have

feathers. For the full story of the

origin of that symbol as a non-vulgar

insult, click on this link.

Since that time, the symbol has

grown in popularity.  Today, almost

any monolith can be viewed as a

single digit salute to something. The

most popular form, today is the

raised middle finger.

Hometown Bar & Grill

is a sports bar.  Johnstown is a city of

sports and the official home of the

AAABA. For a front row seat, other

than at the Point Stadium, Hometown

Bar & Grill is the place to be.  There

you can watch it on wide screen TV,

listen to the roar of the crowd and sip

a Yuengling all at the same time.   And

if you're hungry, you can do better than a hot dog.  The menu is

sportsational!

Smiling Faces - everywhere!

The Hometown Bar & Grill

is the place to go when you're in Johnstown Pennsylvania.  Hometown has it all, great food, great atmosphere, a sports crowd and just plain friendly people. There's a great dining room, if you don't want to sit at the bar (left). If you just want to visit with friends over a nice Yuengling, there is no better place than this.
