With $1.00 draft beer (between 4:00 and 7:00 P.M.) and free Pool on Wednesdays, it's a no-brainer where to go on Wednesdays, especially if you have eight balls and like to shoot pool.
The Pelican Pub is one of the best places in St. Augustine to shoot pool. If you use a house cue you'll find most of them are pretty straight and the tables are very level. Eight Ball enthusiasts congregate here in the evenings. Now and then one might find a pool champion in this place. It's a real pleasure to watch one of those guys at work. It makes shooting pool look like an art form.
But Eight Ball isn't the only classic sport available at the Pelican Pub. There are four dart boards, a very British Sport and since The Middle Finger Birthday Party is a celebration of a dramatic English victory, this is very appropriate. If you are into Dart Tournaments or Eight Ball, this is the place to come.
The bar is a shaped in a big 'V', too big to get into one picture but what's behind the bar is worth coming to see (left side). Aside from a variety of snacks, beer taps, polished wood and bar stools that are actually comfortable, nothing can compare to a nice smile on the face of a pretty woman.
Chris tells me there is no menu at the present time. When one appears, it will appear here, too.
In the picture above, if you look back there on the center left side, you will see something that is becoming a true rarity. It's a cigarette machine. The message is clear. You can still smoke inside, here. Florida law limits smoking inside taverns in connection with what part of their gross income is derived from food sales. The Pelican Pub has no menu - serves very little food.
So, come on by on Wednesdays at 4:00 for your dollar beers. Shoot a few games of pool, FREE, and then go out for dinner. Sounds like plan. Don't forget the Middle Finger Birthday Party on October 25!! Bring your middle finger and show it off. This is the time!
